From paintings found in ancient Egypt and Greece, we know that treatment of the spine to treat ailments, was first used thousands of years ago. Founded in 1895, by Daniel David Palmer, Chiropractic's approach to health is based on the importance of structure and function in the human body, and that is affected by the relationship between the spinal column, muscles and nervous system.
The word Chiropractic is derived from Greek and means "to perform with the hands". This is because the most important component of the care you receive is the manual adjustment of the vertebrae of the spine and its affect on the nerves, muscles and even the organs of the human body.
Chiropractic has much in common with other healthcare professions. However, Chiropractic philosophy and treatment distinguishes itself from other healthcare fields in that it is noninvasive and emphasizes the body's inherent recuperative abilities. Understanding the cause of symptoms, rather than simply treating symptoms, is the ultimate goal for our patients.
There are numerous influences (structural, chemical, and psychological) on the nervous system. The Chiropractic adjustment of the spine helps not only alleviate the symptoms, but also improves the communication of the nervous system with all of the organs, muscles and tissues of the body. We emphasize an evidence-based, hands-on approach and we strive toward early intervention, emphasizing timely diagnosis and treatment of the body.
